IGET Flavour Guide: Ice, Fruit and Dessert Aus
Every IGET flavour falls into one of three families. Knowing which family you belong to narrows a hundred options down to a handful, and it is a far more useful filter than reading individual flavour names.
The ice family
Anything with Ice in the name has a cooling agent added. It is not mint, it is a sensation rather than a flavour, and it sits on top of whatever fruit is underneath.
Ice flavours are the most popular family in Australia by a wide margin, partly because the cooling cuts through in heat and partly because they stay refreshing across a long device. They are also the most forgiving: an ice flavour rarely becomes sickly the way a sweet one can.
Start with Blackberry Ice or Lush Ice. Both are middle of the road within the family.
The fruit family
Fruit without cooling. These read warmer and rounder, and the fruit itself is more prominent because nothing is competing with it.
They divide into berry blends, which tend to be jammy, and tropical blends, which tend to be sharper. Strawberry Raspberry is the reference point for berries. Passion Fruit Mango Lime is the reference point for tropical.
If you find ice flavours numbing after a while, this is the family to move to.
The dessert and candy family
Sweets, bakery and cream notes. Black Forest and the hard candy flavours live here. They are the most distinctive on the first puff and the fastest to tire of, which is why they sell steadily but rarely top the reorder lists.
Two practical notes. Sweet liquids coat a coil faster, so a device or pod running a dessert flavour has a slightly shorter useful life. And they work far better as an evening or occasional device than as your only one.
Finding your family cheaply
Buy one from each family on the cheapest device in the range, the Bar 3500. Three of those cost roughly what one large rechargeable device does. After that you know where you sit and every purchase afterwards is informed rather than a guess.
Rotating flavours
Palate fatigue is the reason a flavour you loved suddenly tastes like nothing. It is your perception adapting, not the device failing.
