Vape liquid and lithium batteries both degrade, and both degrade faster in the conditions most people store devices in. If you buy in bulk, this is the difference between a carton that is fine in six months and one that is not.
Keep them upright
Store devices and spare pods standing up. Lying flat lets liquid pool against the mouthpiece seal, which is the main cause of a device that leaks or spits on the first draw. It also lets liquid creep into the airway, where it does nothing useful.
This matters most for spares sitting in a drawer for weeks. A device in daily use rarely sits still long enough for it to be a problem.
Avoid heat above everything else
Heat is the fastest way to ruin both halves of the device. It thins the liquid so it leaks, it darkens and stales the flavour, and it permanently reduces how much charge the battery holds.
The worst place is a car. A closed car in an Australian summer easily passes 60 degrees, which is well beyond what these devices are built for. A bag left in the sun is nearly as bad. A drawer indoors is fine.
Cold is less harmful but not free
Cold does not damage the liquid, but it thickens it. A device stored somewhere cold wicks slowly for the first few puffs, and pulling hard in that window is a common way to get a burnt taste from a perfectly good device.
Do not refrigerate vapes. There is no benefit and condensation forming inside the device when it warms up does no favours to the electronics.
Keep them out of the light
Direct sunlight breaks down flavour compounds and discolours liquid. Devices are not sold in clear packaging for exactly this reason. Keep spares in their boxes until you need them, which also keeps the security code panel intact until you want to check it.
Charge state for long term storage
If you are storing a rechargeable body for more than a few weeks, leave it around half charged rather than full or flat. A lithium battery left completely flat for months can drop below the voltage where it will take a charge again, and one left full sits under more stress than it needs to.
Practical bulk storage
If you buy a carton of ten, keep it in its box, indoors, upright, away from a window and away from anything that gets warm. Under a bed or in a wardrobe is genuinely ideal. Stored that way, sealed devices keep well for a year or more.
Rotate your stock. Use the oldest device first rather than reaching for whichever flavour you feel like, otherwise one flavour sits at the back for a year while the rest turn over.
